Dark Dungeons

There was a time when I got together pretty regularly with some guys to play roleplaying games, most every Friday night in my late teens and early college years. Eventually I moved away, but the tradition continued unabated without me, turning into something sacred. When yet another move brought me back to town and back to “guy’s night”, at some point I inquired about inviting girls (okay, a girl, who I really would have rather spent my night with…) to join us, but the idea was quickly quashed by the others, with dire warnings in hushed tones that such a thing had been tried before but didn’t go well and must never be attempted again.
I was never quite clear on what went wrong, but something like this is my best guess.

Oh my gosh, I got it right away. I just showed one of my volunteers (another D + Der) that tract last week to joke about it. Last night with our students someone joked about Dungeons and Dragons and she got all serious and said “Hey, Dungeons and Dragons only ends too ways….Devil Worship and Suicide” we laughed for about an hour.
Those tracts are funny now as a Christian adult who plays D + D who can see through the tin-foil hat B.S of the chick trash, , they weren’t so funny when random people who took those tracts seriously pushed them on a teen who loved his RPGs….

Loved it. I still mourn over Black Leaf’s untimely demise. She will be forever missed.
I still can’t pick a lock without thinking about her.

Wow, the supplemental material in that chick comic really made this one for me. It might be my favorite of all time too! When I first started reading the Chick comic I thought it was supposed to be funny! Boy was I wrong…..or was I?
