Come Just As You Are

I grew up in a church where, for the most part, regular members didn’t just dress up on Sundays, but actually wore uniforms.
My current church has a different philosophy — one of recognizing that people in our society are more apt to be spiritually aware if they’re environmentally comfortable. As a result we have some people who come in their Sunday best, while others relish the chance to wear something… let’s say “more relaxed than their work-week attire.”
I can’t say I’ve ever seen someone show up in a housecoat, but I do know of at least one person who came in what were essentially pajama pants a few times, and no one seemed to notice. It’s pretty chillax, as the kids are saying.
As for the coffee? This is the Seattle area. Drinking coffee during church is just par for the course. Sometimes I’m surprised the church’s little plastic communion cups don’t come in Tall, Venti or Grande sizes and with a biodegrateable paper sleeve.

And for those of you who don’t speak Canadian, housecoat = bathrobe (in case you didn’t pay attention to what Ronnie was wearing).

HA! HHAHA! HAHA!!! Ah my… paper sleeve. That’s awesome.
Which reminds me. Last week or so, we were trying our some new chairs at church that will replace the pews we currently have. I asked if any of them have cup holders (See above Coffee during church comment) and one of the deacons says yeah, and shows me the little hole for a communion cup. Obviously, there is a generation gap at work.
